alrighty. this is an interesting take on what a good "resume" means...

So you're thinking of joining the Vanderbilt football staff. You have a great resume, experience and talent. But getting a job on James Franklin's staff isn't about any of those things, it's about how attractive your wife is.
Franklin unabashedly said so during a radio interview Wednesday where he claimed that one of the first things he does when looking at perspective hires is size up their wives.
Yeah, creepy.
"I've been saying it for a long time, I will not hire an assistant coach until I've seen his wife. If she looks the part, and she's a D-I recruit (one of the nation's best-of-the-best), then you got a chance to get hired. That's part of the deal."

I checked out his assistants wives off a link in the article. I have not idea what he's talking about, but he should not have brought it up in the first place. Sounds like a young inexperienced head coach making a mistake. It's not just a stupid theory, it's stupid to SAY it's your theory.

I wonder how many assistant coaches are looking for another job right now. If I were the Head Coach or AD of a school looking for a coach, I'd actively recruit one of the Vandy coaches right away.

This goes way beyond insensitive.

i would hope so! but seems that he didnt even offer that up after he said it. i would like to hear the interview to hear the tone of voice.

if not, he really embarrassed the university.

And now the backlash:

James Franklin's comments regarding the need for his assistants to have attractive wives went viral Thursday, prompting an outcry from some fans and a Twitter apology from Vanderbilt's second-year football coach.

The remarks also garnered the attention of Vanderbilt Vice Chancellor of Athletics David Williams, who addressed his coach on Thursday about how "inappropriate" the message was.
Both individuals are in Destin, Fla., for the annual SEC meetings.
"He clearly made a mistake," Williams said. "And clearly what he said is not how he feels and not how we feel."

But voicing that on the airwaves led to a CBSSports.com blog and the kind of national attention that Williams doesn't want.
"I didn't hear about the (comments) until (Thursday) and I have talked to Coach about it," Williams said. "Coach is sorry that he made that statement. He's issued an apology on Twitter. I've talked to him about how inappropriate his statements were and how offensive they could be to some people.
"He said he was really in a joking mode, if you like, and didn't mean all of that. And I explained that's a thing you don't even joke about.
"None of those things are criteria for hiring at Vanderbilt."
