Coaching Carosel 2017

Recommended Posts

I was wondering when the first domino was to fall.

As for now, Old Mrs and Tenn are a couple to be looking for coaches. After the bama game, aTm is on life support. But aTm is gonna aTm.

Ole Miss lost by 21 points and posted its head coaching application on the same day

It’s probably a coincidence, and that probably doesn’t matter.

Ole Miss is 2-3 after getting drubbed at Auburn on Saturday, 44-23. The Rebels aren’t much good, and how they do this season doesn’t matter much anyway, because they’re under a self-imposed bowl ban that’s designed to earn them NCAA mercy. Their NCAA compliance scandal could reach a resolution by a little later this fall.

Because of another scandal — involving ex-coach Hugh Freeze and phone calls to escort services — the Rebels are playing this mostly meaningless year under interim head coach Matt Luke. Freeze was fired late in the summer, and the application to replace him permanently went up Saturday on Ole Miss’ website:

The “Job Responsibilities” section of that application:

The selected candidate will organize and direct all aspects of the NCAA Division I Football program. Some of the responsibilities include identifying and recruiting athletically and academically qualified student-athletes; scheduling and conducting regular practice sessions; overseeing the administrative process for budget, student-athlete eligibility and academic progress; participating in fund raising and public relations activities; and promoting the philosophy and objectives of the Intercollegiate Athletics program that student-athletes should be successful athletically and academically. Knowledge of and commitment to compliance with all NCAA, Conference, departmental, and University rules and regulations as well as dedication to full academic development of student-athletes are essential.

If that sounds like something for you, you’re welcome to apply for the job. There’s a search firm copied on that app, and you can send your resume there.

Hotty Toddy.

A coaching change in mid season, could be due to a few reasons. A team quits, they would be motivated by a assistant coach. Getting the jump of the other teams. Being the first domino to fall. Ole Miss and some word Tenn have started to look into who they want to hire. Still games to play, the next three weeks, will start to tell more.

I really can't believe that Ole Miss would look for a coach... the current guy is a OM lifer and would stick it out thru the sactions or at least weather the sactions.  Then you hire a coach  after a year of the sactions have been lifted and let him show improvement to let them ride the wave of sucess.

Some talk of a two year ban on Bowl games. If this happens, a mass exodus from Old Mrs. Don't care who they hire, to some extent.

This is a major cluster, yep, let him weather/fight this storm.

Put it this way, he was offered the job before, turned it down. He told them to hire Mike Sherman. Mike had it setup to really have a great season, that's when Sumlin got the job. Look at the guys from that team that went to the Pros, both sides of the line.

But it like I said, I hope they continue to aTm. Wouldn't want them to ever beat us, I love this streak of 0'fer games. After MooU and Troy, I thought aTm might have a chance this year. But looks like more of the same.

So i didnt realize this until today.  But apparently Sumlin has only won 3 SEC west opponent games at home since he started as coach - Arkansas, and Moo U twice.  He's toast.

Butch at UT hasn't beat an SEC West team since he's been there. So far this year, Butch at UT and Vandy have yet to win an SEC game.

Tailback John Kelly on the one characteristic he’s looking for in Tennessee’s next head coach: “Honesty.”

Last guy I think that was really a great guy, Johnny Majors, and he was forced out at Tenn.

Bielema told reporters in Fayetteville that he got the news that he was fired as he was coming off the field Friday, but he later clarified that he was informed in his game-day office after the game.

If Dan Mullins and Malzhan move to other SEC schools (or elsewhere), there might be a total of 7 head coaching changes in the SEC this year.  Has that ever happened in a single year?

Chasing Bama kills coaches.
